On the cold windy day after President Obama gave his speech escalating the war in Afghanistan, a group of
local citizens took to the street to protest. Organized by Great Neck SANE/Peace Action, members of the vigil
wanted to publicly oppose the President on this issue. "We deplore the escalation of war and with it the cost
in human blood and treasure. The trillion that will go to war can best be used at home for desperately needed
domestic programs, health, jobs, housing, schools, " said Great Neck SANE Peace Action chairperson Stan Romaine.
"It is not acceptable that one life should be surrendered to defend a corrupt regime and a rag-tag
army and police force." There will be ongoing actions.
