Our major goal this past year has been to support a City Council resolution limiting the effects of the Patriot Act. The resolution affirms the Council's commitment to the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It calls for monitoring of federal anti-terrorism operations in our city, and requires NYC police to cooperate with federal agents only when criminal conduct is suspected. GVC members gathered more than 300 signatures on behalf of the resolution, and some of us were present in Council chambers when it was approved on February 4. |
