BUILDING THE WALL
Wednesday June 23, 2004 7:30 PM at Sameh Fakhoure's, 27 Holly Drive
We visited with Emily Perry and Andrew Courtney, who recently returned from a trip to Israel and the Palestinian
Territories (mentioned in the WESPAC story linked below) The meeting was hosted by Sameh Fakhoure at his home.
Andrew and Emily discussed their experience of the Building of the Wall in the Occupied Territories and its effect on the
communities there. They also showed a short video of their visit. See the story: "Fourth gun attack in 15 years claims life of Palestinian invalid," by Donald Macintyre, Jerusalem, 08 June 2004.
For several months now we have been having our vigils in White Plains every Saturday afternoon against the war in Iraq in conjunction with other peace groups in Westchester. Response is good and mostly supportive.
We have established a Progressive News Network on our local cable T.V. featuring discussion by our local members as well as informative speakers on issues of peace and civil liberties. The discussions will last about 25 minutes at each airing. The Network will also be showing relevant films followed by discussion.
We have established a Bill of Rights Defense Committee and have sent a resolution to the Westchester County Legislators asking them to condemn aspects of the Patriot Act that are unconstitutional and infringe on our civil liberties. We have also established a telephone and letter writing campaign asking people to sign petitions and contact their legislators regarding the passing of the resolution.
WVOX the local New Rochelle radio station has offered us time to air our concerns in a discussion format. The first one of these discussions will be heard this Friday morning and attended by several Peace Action members.
A group of us went to the march in New York City on March 20th, and met up there with other local Westchester peace groups.
