Dear Peace Advocate,
As you know, last month, in an unprecedented development, the House of Representatives voted
against continue war funding. Unfortunately, their colleagues in the Senate did
not support their stand against the Bush administration.
As early as TODAY, THURSDAY JUNE 19, the House could
vote to support the Senate version, effectively
ending their five week rebellion against this illegal war.
The funding that the House will vote on in includes a record-shattering
$165 Billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan,
as well as some domestic spending on expanded GI benefits
and extended unemployment insurance. The bill does NOT specify
any conditions on the war funding itself - no timelines
or goals for troop withdrawals, no troop readiness provisions
- nothing to alter or challenge Bush's Iraq war policy in
the slightest.
When the funding bill came before the House of Representatives last month, the peace movement
lit up the phones, and it made a difference! House members need to hear from us again.
If this bill passes, it will give President Bush and his successor the unconstrained
ability to pursue the war into summer 2009.
Time is short, so please ACT IMMEDIATELY:
Click here to use UFPJs web form to send an email to your Congressional Representative.
Tell him or her to vote against this funding bill, because it's time to bring all the troops
home. We support GI benefits and extended unemployment insurance, but that it's outrageous
to suggest that these be tied to another year of war.
You can also call your Representative at
the number listed here.
As always, thanks for all you do.
