Alert #191  December 23, 2008
Dear Peace Advocate,

Hanukkah is here and Christmas is coming. As we celebrate with family and friends and look forward to new beginnings, it is an appropriate time to wish, and work, for peace.

Let’s start 2009 by sharing our hopes, dreams and resolutions for 2009 and watching them flutter down as confetti into the heart of Times Square on New Year’s Eve. Every year the Times Square Alliance collects wishes and resolutions, prints them on confetti and drops them, along with millions of other pieces of paper, into the biggest New Year’s Eve party in the world.

In your five minutes for peace during this busy holiday season, please wish for peace in 2009 by clicking here.

Need some suggestions for wishes for 2009? How about:
  • peace on earth
  • an end to nuclear weapons
  • respect for human rights around the world
  • bring the troops home now
  • an end to conflict in Afghanistan
  • single payer heath care
  • marriage equality
  • a productive, peaceful economy
From the Peace Action New York State office, we would like to say THANK YOU for everything you have done for peace this year. It has been an amazing, and historic, journey. But for many of us, this year’s New Year’s resolutions will be about working even harder for peace in 2009. Now is when the real work begins. We finally have an ear in Washington, but we must continue to organize and raise our voices for peace.

We wish you all happy holidays and a peaceful New Year.

In Peace,

The Peace Action New York State Team

January 2009 will mark the 80th anniv. of Dr. King’s birthday.  January 2009 Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America.  At this defining moment, the words of Dr. King in the ‘60s are amazingly relevant to the current wars and economic crisis.  They point out to Obama the road to peace and justice.

ROCKLAND VIGIL FOR PEACE FOR IMMIGRANTS
The targeting and murder of Latino men makes tragically clear that we have not yet achieved Dr. King's complete dream, which was for all of us. In the second murder, the two Ecuadorian brothers were also targeted because they were walking together, and thought to be gay. We invite all people of good will to join us in remembering two hard working immigrants who came to this country seeking a better life, only to become victims of hateful violence. In doing so, we will honor Dr. King and his vision for our country. Organized by the Rockland Immigration Coalition
