Human Banner

Make your message large – literally. By taking markers and writing on banners as large, or larger, than your bed sheets, your message will be impossible to ignore.

What is a Human Banner?

Human Banners are banners created by a large number of people and, usually, photographed from an aerial point of view. They have one clear message and can garner a lot of media attention – and they are a lot of fun!

Using clear images or icons of the movement are perfect. They are fun to organize (who doesn’t like making a human peace sign?) and pretty easy to mark on a large area of land. You can also use lettering, but you’ll need a few volunteers to make sure it the letters are legible!


How can you adapt this to peace advocacy? Here are some ideas:

  • At the next campus/local basketball/football game, see if you can use half time to get everyone in the stadium to make a peace sign. Try to get the players involved. Make sure someone takes a photo from the bleechers!
